When I was at high school, I thought it’d be nice to go into Air Force Academy and fly jets, but that was a very brief dream. Ha, ha. I’m too lanky to fit in the cockpit.
It’s really hard to write personal songs. I’m not good at writing ditties because as far as writing hit songs that you pitch to the national artist, I just don’t write that way.
I don’t think I set out to have a career in female groups, but it’s just kind of happened, and by nature of having worked with my sister – growing up with a sister who also plays, and being in communication with other female musicians.
I think soldiers are not just one homogenous group, just like Americans aren’t. They all have different feelings about the war.
Especially in the Dixie Chicks, everyone wants you to play a role. Natalie was the feisty one. Martie was the nice one ’cause she smiles all the time onstage, and I was the quiet one.
Some people still believe you should just fall in line with what’s going on – and that’s scary. It makes a mockery of freedom of speech.
I just know that I could never spend a winter in Chicago or some place like that. I’m just not a cold weather person.
